G. Helen Whitener
Helen was born and raised in the beautiful Caribbean island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. Educated in the British system, Helen arrived in the United States at the age of 16 to attend college where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and International Marketing from Baruch College, City University of New York in 1988. Helen entered law school in 1995 at Seattle University School of Law where she obtained her J.D. degree in 1998. Helen has practiced law as both a prosecutor and a member of the private defense bar and understands the law from both sides.
As a criminal defense attorney, Helen has worked at the Pierce County Department of Assigned Counsel, and as a solo practitioner in her own practice, the Law Office of G. Helen Whitener, which she started in 2005. As a solo-practitioner, Helen regularly served as a pro-tem judge in Pierce County District Court and occasionally in the City of Tacoma Municipal Court. Helen is a founding partner of the Law Firm.
Helen has returned to government service as a Judge for the Washington Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals.
Helen’s experience covers all types of criminal cases from class A felonies to misdemeanors, including juvenile and appellate issues. Helen's prosecutorial experience includes deputy prosecutor for the City of Olympia Prosecutor's Office, the Island County Prosecutor's Office, and the Pierce County Prosecutor's Office.
